Development Scientist
Qualifications
PhD in physics, mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field required and 5+ years of industry experience or BS in physics, mechanical engineering, materials science with 10-20 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities
Experience managing 2+ employees and promoting safe, strong work ethic, harmonious work environment
Ability and confidence to give safety approval for complex chemical experiments without need to consult supervision
Ability to manage every aspect of project as true principal investigator from devising the experiments to motivating employees, evaluating safety, executing complex plan and then evaluating results
Strong documentation skills describing experimental results and physics-based conclusions
Strong understanding of electromagnetics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
Experience in electromagnetic and fluid dynamics modeling (such as COMSOL or FLUENT)
Strong hands-on laboratory skills with a willingness to troubleshoot equipment
Experience designing custom equipment via CAD (such as SolidWorks) and working with manufactures to construct the equipment
Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition (such as LabView)
Organized: Ability to intelligently categorize information in a method that is intuitive to others

Responsibilities
The Development Scientist is responsible for planning and performing tests on Maat Energy’s atmospheric microwave plasma reactors and using the results to improve reactor design
You will be responsible for managing the design, construction, and evaluation of new plasma reactors
Manage tasks with minimal oversight
Maintaining HAZOP and SOPs for safe use of the equipment
Documenting designs and experimental results in reports for continued plasma reactor improvement
Produce detailed documentation and supporting data
Communicate findings and recommended course of action
Work with fabricators or suppliers to produce complex plasma reactor assemblies
Participate in brainstorming and problem solving in a team setting to identify solutions
Supervise, mentor and train less experienced employees
Performs other duties as needed

Your Role
You would be responsible for assisting with designing, implementing, commissioning, ramping up, and optimizing of Maat Energy’s Atmospheric Microwave Plasma Technology systems which are critical to scaling up our processes.
You will be at the front lines of implementing new designs, solving operational challenges, and design optimization in a team effort. You will organize resulting data and pursue continuous improvement of experimental setup and operation.

Arrange and categorize all experiments
Write summary reports of research, data, and resultant conclusions
Demonstrate a high level of safety awareness
Continuously improve the application data collection and the organization of said data

3 or more years of experience organizing the timely design, construction, acquisition, and installation of scientific equipment
This position requires technical expertise for installing and operating microwave-based plasma reforming equipment, process piping design, control system design, and plant utility systems
Must be able to work under general direction to plan, coordinate, and ensure completion of engineering team deliverables

Responsibilities
The Project Engineer will be responsible for organizing the design, construction, acquisition, and installation of Maat Energy’s atmospheric microwave plasma reactors
Request quotations from vendors and suppliers, make purchase orders, and acquire equipment in a logical manner for installation according to project timeline
Documents all process/product, general user requirements and generates basis of design packages
Develops schematic and detailed design of systems including construction documents (P&IDs, layouts, etc.)
Run Techno-Economic Analysis of system to evaluate economic viability
Develop project engineering procedures, guidelines, and tools to help achieve consistency
Specifies and sizes process, utility, and/or automation equipment
Develops standardized commissioning and verification templates
Plans, coordinates, and drives design, design review, and peer review activities
Leads design reviews and risk assessments to identify critical aspects and verification methods
Ensures development of factor acceptance tests, commissioning, and verification plans
Establish and maintain HAZOP and SOPs for safe use of the equipment
